A native of Washington, D.C., Doug's musical path has led him on adventures around the world, from the Caribbean to Asia and all over the U.S.
Doug took up the bass at age 14 to play in his brother's band, and was already in demand playing with many local groups and winning awards by the time he finished high school. He then took his playing to the next level studying with bass legends Gary Willis, Jeff Berlin, and Steve Bailey at Hollywood's famed Bass Institute of Technology.
Since graduating with honors from B.I.T. in 1988, Doug has enjoyed a prolific career as a freelance bassist, performing and recording all over the world with artists including: Martha Reeves & the Vandellas (Motown), Katia Moraes (Sergio Mendes, Airto Moreira), Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Maynard Ferguson), and countless others.
In 1995, a tour as bassist for Fantasia Musical Circus brought Doug to Japan for the first time. He fell in love with the country and spent the next seven years performing all over Japan. From 1998 until 2002, he was in charge of the bass program at Fukuoka School of Music, one of Japan's largest music schools.
Doug currently resides in Los Angeles, where he performs with many acts and teaches bass privately and at L.A. Music Academy in Pasadena. Now, after more than 20 years mastering his craft by playing other people's music, Doug has harnessed the talent of two dozen of L.A.'s finest musicians, including Otmaro Ruiz, Mike Shapiro, Ross Bolton, and Albert Wing, and Australia's Brett Garsed, to help him in making his own highly personal musical statement on this debut CD.
